May 3rd, 2002 - Star of the Sea, Whiterock, BC:

This is a soccer fundraiser in beautiful Whiterock. I'm not kidding. I'd move here if I could afford it. We're in a hall called the Star of the Sea. Jim is running the show and he does a great job. We have no idea what to expect and are blown away by the turnout. It's absolutely jam-packed in there. Our soundman can't even get out into the auditorium to hear what it sounds like - too many people in the way. But it's a gymnasium, so maybe it's a good thing he didn't get out there to hear it...

If you've read the tour diary before, you probably already know about Doug's mishap while he was practicing for the luge - anyway, he fell on the ice and hurt his knees and he's more or less confined to the stage because of it... so he has to bring the people to him instead... in the middle of the show, he points out two men who do their clothes shopping at Walmart and brings them up onstage... to dance in their khakis and golf shirts... they seem more than happy to do this... and then another Walmart shopper joins them without even being asked... so we have three middle-aged men, wearing the same clothes onstage at the same time and for some reason this is hilarious at the time... hmm... maybe we can get a sponsorship thing going with Walmart... maybe not...

the Twist contest is a big hit... all the contestants onstage barely leave enough room for us... Full Moon opens the 2nd set for us and I'll tell you... those guys rock! It's been a long time since we've had them help us out with the show and we miss those guys! Doug brings back the skipping and the limbo at the end of Making It Work... I remember one particularly well-endowed member of the opposite sex getting a little hung up in the limbo contest... titfishing! A lot of fun though, and now we're heading straight to the airport to fly out to Calgary for an afternoon show in Sunshine Valley (outside of Banff)... 'til then!
