April 11th, 2002 - Cadillac's, Norseman Inn, Camrose, AB:
This is the first time we've played Camrose since I've been in the band… it takes us approximately five hours to drive here… pretty big club - all rustic looking rough wood… the stage is as deep as I've seen… and hollow, which is not a good thing… add that to the corrugated tin roof and you have a very loud stage with very hard to control low-end frequencies (read: drones) that can give a guy like Mike (our soundman) major headaches. But I think all 75 people there would agree that Mike has it sounding pretty damn good! All of us onstage couldn't hear for the next 17 days but… yup, not too many people in the club on this night…
Camrose is pretty small, but there must be more than 75 people living there… and what else is there to do? Hmmm… Still, we make a show of it…
Doug isn't able to do too much of his usual running through the audience after his accident… it was in the marathon section of his most recent triathlon… no problems in the swimming or the cycling, and he was nearing first place in the running when some of the other runners ganged up on him, dragged him screaming from the track, tied him up and hid him behind a bush… a really big bush… okay, I guess that's not really an accident - sort of an on-purpose thing… but that's what happened. Really… so anyway, he's confined to a stool onstage for the most part… he still manages to grab three men from the audience, line them up in front of the stage and poll the women in the club; "How many women here would sleep with this one?"… not too many takers for any of them… I would guess that in a town the size of Camrose you'd have to be careful about who knows what… then he polls the guys… same question regarding the same three men in front of the stage… the response was amazing! When Doug gets to the third guy and asks 'how many guys would sleep with this one' all the guy's friends jump up and volunteer… kisses and hugs for everyone… well, okay… whatever makes you happy I guess… like I said, in a town the size of Camrose… I guess you have to be really creative about your entertainment…
anyway, off to Saskatoon tomorrow; another five hour drive…
See you there!
Marc.
