December 21st, 2002 - Dusty's, Whistler, BC:

This is the first time the Slugs have played Dusty's since we closed it down a couple of years ago... completely remodelled now, it looks amazing inside! We're also the first band in here since the change... so we closed it, then opened it again...

We almost have to play this one without a guitar player however... Elio's not too used to driving - it's hard to drive while asleep - but he's in the driver's seat on the way to this gig... I assume he was backing up into the loading bay, window down, head sticking out... (I wasn't in the van as I had to leave right after the gig to go to San Diego for Xmas and brought my own car)... anyway, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to pull your head back inside BEFORE you press the button for the electric window... oops... Doug can't stop laughing for quite awhile while relating the story...

There's a birthday in the house tonight, and the birthday girl isn't at all shy... Doug gets her to sing in 'Day by Day' and pretty much loses the microphone for the next 10 minutes... she won't give it back! I think she had a good time, though I doubt she remembers any of it...

Not a full house tonight, but those that were there had a great time... AND! The Canucks beat Edmonton tonight, so everything's just great... I'm off to spend Xmas with my sister in San Diego now... back in time to catch another flight to Regina for New Years (talk about temperature shock!)
