Jake's Crossing, Port Moody, BC

Okay, so it's not really the road for us, but it is for some of you out there reading this… there is someone out there reading this isn't there?

Jake's Crossing is one of our favourite 'in-town' rooms to play. Just a small pub, but a great atmosphere, awesome staff, and the crowd is always happening - it's always packed. The band, 'Full Moon' opened for us. What a bunch of freaks those guys are!

This is our drummer's last gig with us - he's playing in the band, 'Bad Apple' and needs to be able to devote more time to them - but strangely enough, I don't feel the bittersweet mixture I thought I might about his leaving. I only feel happy to play on stage with him one more time. True to his form, Doug Grant played his hardest, his best… what he brings to the stage every night. I know I speak for the entire band here: we'll miss you, Doug. It's been awesome. Thanks.

So. Because Doug Grant is leaving the band, we decide to record the band so the new drummer will have a copy of the live show to learn. The band decides this. Doug Bennett has other ideas I guess, because this is when he decides to forget the ending in Terminal City. And we got it on tape! About ¾ of the way into the show, Doug Bennett makes the announcement that it's our drummer's last show. He also alludes to a song that Doug Grant absolutely hates to play. Then he calls Doug Grant from behind his drums to sing it - 'Mustang Sally'.

NO WAY! Doug Grant's defiance would've matched ten Doug Bennetts trying to force him to the front of the stage. IT”S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! (Doug Grant's own words). Just how dark red can a face get though? The word crimson just doesn't do it justice enough. Needless to say, Doug Grant wins that one, stays behind his drums, safe and sound. And the show is great. We play for two and a half hours, one of our longest shows. Three encores: Satisfaction, which Doug Bennett has the crowd sing; Cover Me With Roses (one of my favourites); and Drifting Away, which is a great way to end it, and wind down. We don't play it very often. Jake's rocks!

See you back here after Lac La Biche!
