February 8th, 2003 - Jake's Crossing, Port Moody, BC:
Speaking of homes away from home... Jake's Crossing is certainly one of those for us... every time we play here it's sold out, every time we play here the crowd is amazing, every time we play here it's a great night...
This is the last in-town gig for us, as we're leaving for the prairies on Tuesday and we'll be gone for a couple of weeks... Jay isn't coming on this trip with us - I think maybe there's some repairs that need to be done on the face... so Steve Bosley (original bassist with the Slugs), will be coming with us for this swing... we had a rehearsal with Steve earlier this week... he comes down tonight to get a feel for the live show... in the middle of the 2nd set, we get Steve up to play a few songs... but that's not the best part... Jay doesn't just get to sit down and listen... Doug makes a big deal about Jay's wife, Lolita, being in the club tonight, and the fact that he's never seen Jay dance with his wife... so we all get to see first-hand what that looks like... lucky for him there's too many people on the dance floor to really get a good look at his dancing... and anyway, how could it possibly compare to his moondance?
It's an unusually large guestlist tonight, and to get to the backroom we have to go behind the bar, so there's a virtual parade of bodies causing traffic jams for the staff tonight... but the staff is very accommodating and there's no problems... thanks Jake's! You guys rock!
We're usually here a few times a year, so if you missed us this time because it was sold out, then make sure you get tickets early next time... Next stop = Rocky Mountain House, Alberta... see you there! Marc.
