The Slugs were formed in Vancouver in 1977. The band produced
their first album Cognac and Bologna in 1980,
through RCA, and sold nearly 100,000 copies.

Wrap It was released in 1981 also through RCA,
with Music for the Hard of Thinking
being released in 1983 - featuring the hit Making it Work

Subsequent albums were released:
in 1984 - Ten Big Ones,
in 1985 - Popaganda,
in 1987 - Best of Doug and the Slugs,
in 1988 - Tomcat Prowl,
in 1992 - Tales from Terminal City,
in 1993 - Slugcology 101: A Decade of Doug and the Slugs.

Doug Bennett also released the solo effort Animato in 1986.

There was a little-known (in Canada, at least) album released stateside only in 1987 called simply
Doug and the Slugs and it featured a compilation of songs from Popaganda and Animato...
it came out on a label out of Cleveland called Avion.

Somewhere else in the midst of all this, another special album
was released RCA Special Radio Series - Featuring Doug and the Slugs.
This was a promotional record only that featured all the songs
from "Cognac and Bologna" with dialogue and introduction by Doug between each song.

The band members have changed over the years, but they still
make an annual visit through arenas and pubs across Canada.

  According to one source, Doug grew up in an East End rag top .. he learned to walk on a saw dust floor. He hung out at the Catman's night spot .. throwing drunks from the club's backdoor. Another source hints that he's from a Terminal City where Kings and Queens walk the bay in a daydream and where everybody loves that smoky emotion. And yet another tale leads us to believe he's been working like a dog gone crazy - giving everything he's got. Or perhaps he's simply from Chinatown .. eatin' poached eggs and waiting for that damn water to boil. The question here is .... what's the REAL story?

  

• Marc Gladstone (keyboards, vocals)
  Marc started with the band in May '98. Marc was enrolled in piano at the tender age of 7 (ha ha) He quit a few times in the midst of his lessons, but obviously couldn't resist those keys, 'cause he's still playin'! (when he's not busy writing). Check out Marc's r

• Chris Murray Driver (drums, vocals)
  Chris joined the band in October 2001. Chris has played with many original and cover bands, along with a few recording acts since the early 80's. He has toured throughout Canada and parts of the U.S. Recently, along with the Slugs, Chris has played with 3 other original bands in the Vancouver area. One of these, The Shawn Meehan Band has recently filmed a music video to coincide with their CD, due for release on Much Music soon after Christmas. Ironically, the Shawn Meehan Band is where our former drummer, Doug Grant, is now playing.

• Elio Martelli (guitar, vocals)
  Elio .. Elio .. Elio .. he looks mighty fine in them jeans!
  Actually, he spends a fair amount of time working on his original music at a recording studio in Vancouver. He is an excellent guitar and bass player, as well as a very good singer. He plays a Fender Stratocaster really really LOUD ..
  

• Jay Wittur (bass, vocals)
  Jay graces the stage with the Slugs in the bass player's position and has been there since summer of 1996. Check out the photo pages and Marc's Road Diary for more info on all the Slugs..... Incidentally, Jay, Elio, Chris and Marc also perform in the Vancouver area under the name of Full Moon ....
